VHA Awards Network Upgrade Deal to Huawei

Huawei was selected by VHA (Vodafone Hutchison Australia) to upgrade VHA's current networks, according to a February 22, 2011 report by The Australian. As per the deal, Huawei is expected to replace VHA's 2G radio equipment at all of its 8000 mobile base stations with the Huawei's SingleRAN offering that is able to support both 2G and 3G technologies. It is reported that VHA will deploy the radio network controllers supplied by Huawei in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth as well. The entire project is estimated to take 18 months. The value of the deal is not disclosed.
